Welcome to Build Better Humans!

We help athletes build the mental tools and skills they need to perform with confidence and consistency.

We focus on the person first, because strong performances come from strong people. We work on skills like focus, confidence, resilience, communication, and handling pressure, to name a few, for use in sport and in life.

Our team works at different levels of experience:

Consultants-in-training are graduate students in sport psychology who are completing their graduate coursework and training hours. They are learning how to support athletes and performers while being guided by our Lead Certified Mental Performance Consultants (CMPCs).

Associate Consultants have completed their graduate coursework and are in the final steps of their CMPC certification. They offer strong support and are a great option for athletes and performers looking for a more accessible price.

Certified Consultants (CMPCs) have completed their full certification and have strong experience working with athletes, performers and teams. They help build mental skills in a clear and structured way.

Senior/Lead Consultants have many years of experience working with athletes, performers, teams and coaches. They also help lead and mentor within Build Better Humans.

Allied Health Professionals support the full well-being of athletes. This may include therapists, psychologists, social workers, or nutrition experts who help with mental health, life stress, and overall health.

Angelica’s path to sport psychology began with her own career as a competitive athlete, where a series of injuries ultimately ended her elite athletic career and forced her into the difficult work of returning to sport and redefining her path. That experience now shapes how she works with athletes facing low motivation, confidence struggles, or barriers within their sport, building personalized, evidence-based plans that foster resilience and unlock optimal performance. She holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Behaviour from McMaster University, a Post Graduate Certificate in Brain Disorder Management from Mohawk College, and a Master of Science in Applied Sport Psychology from the University of Winchester, and is currently completing her hours toward CMPC accreditation. Off the clock, Angelica enjoys reading, playing soccer, watching sports, going to concerts, and weightlifting.

Angie’s passion for helping athletes elevate purpose into performance stemmed from her own experiences as a competitive figure skater who navigated career-ending injuries, giving her an intimate understanding of the psychological demands unique to aesthetic sports. That journey drives her athlete-centred, collaborative approach, free of generic frameworks or surface-level positivity. In her first season with SFU Women’s Volleyball, the team had its best season in program history, and her individual clients have earned results including international junior medals and National Championship titles. Angie holds a BA (Hons.) in Psychology from SFU and an MHK in Mental Performance from the University of Ottawa, and coaches figure skating as an NCCP Provincial Certified Coach. Melissa’s path to mental coaching emerged a decade into what has now become 20 years as a competitive gymnastics coach, alongside her own time playing soccer, rugby, and karate. She saw that the biggest things holding athletes back weren’t their physical skills, but what was happening in their minds. That realization inspired her to complete graduate studies in mental performance at the University of Ottawa. Melissa wants to be the supportive guide she wishes she had when she was a young athlete. Today, she works with athletes, teams, and parents to help manage pressure, improve focus, and stay positive through injuries or mistakes. She believes mental skills can be practiced and improved just like any sport. Off the clock, Melissa stays busy Latin dancing, rock climbing, and paddleboarding outdoors. She also loves woodworking and building things for her own DIY house renovations.
